When you make these healthy brownies, you’ll feel so happy and guilt free because they’re filled with nutritious ingredients.  Avocados? Bananas? Whole wheat flour?  Yes, yes and yes.  Yet you’ll find yourself with a fabulously fudgy brownie with crispy edges and rich chocolate flavour!

These healthy brownies are loaded with incredibly nutritious ingredients.  It calls for 2 avocadoes, 2 bananas and ZERO butter or oil!  Pretty amazing because most brownie recipes have A LOT of butter or oil!  The avocados are rich in healthy fats while the bananas provide moisture and natural sweetness.  You don’t taste the avocados or bananas in the brownies, just rich chocolately flavour from the cocoa powder. 

Eating avocados can serve up a ton of health benefits:

  • Rich in monounsaturated fats (“good fats”) that help lower LDL cholesterol (“bad cholesterol”)
  • High in fiber to keep you satiated longer
  • Source of potassium, folate, vitamin C, E, B5, K, niacin
  • Sugar free! 
  • Good for the skin because vitamin C helps your body produce more collagen

Whole wheat flour is perfect for making brownies

These healthy brownies are made with whole wheat flour instead of white flour.  Baked goods with whole wheat flour tend to be denser and firmer versus white flour.   But with whole wheat flour, you get more health benefits.  Whole wheat flour is rich in B vitamins, riboflavin and folate.  It also has more iron, calcium, protein than white flour.  Since the texture of brownies are supposed to be dense and fudgy, whole wheat flour is perfect for brownie recipes.

Ingredients
  

  • Ingredients:
  • 2 ripe avocadoes
  • 2 ripe bananas
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup cacao powder
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour

Instructions
 

  • In a blender, add avocadoes, bananas, eggs, salt, vanilla extract and brown sugar. Blend to combine.
  • Add the rest of the ingredients and pulse to combine.
  • Pour batter into an 8″x8″ baking tray lined with parchment paper.
  • Bake in the oven for 20 to 25 minutes at 180°C or 350°F until lightly browned.
  • When the brownies are cooled completely (about 1 hour), cut into squares and enjoy!
