Crispy, spicy air fryer chickpeas may just be THE ultimate healthy snack that you’re looking for!  If you love crunchy, salty snacks, hold off on opening up that next bag of chips until you try this recipe.  It’ll give you the crunch factor, along with that hit of salt and spices but without all the fat and processed ingredients from a typical bag of deep fried potato chips.

Chip lovers rejoice!  Here’s a tasty alternative to eating chips that’ll still curb your chip craving, but be loads healthier for you.  Air fryer chickpeas are vegan, gluten free and high in protein and fiber.  Plus, they can be made in just 15 minutes with a few pantry ingredients.

I have to admit, one of my vices are chips.  Big bags of chips, and once I pop one open, there’ll be nothing left after I’m done.  I’m not the type to close off the bag and put it back in the cupboard for next time.  Once its opened, they’re getting eaten, every last crumb!

After getting an air fryer, I use it all the time to make fries like these crispy wedge fries.  Air fryer chick peas have been on my list of recipes that I’ve been meaning to try with it.  The result was surprisingly delicious!  They came out crunchy, salty and spicy, just like a good bag of chips.  I couldn’t stop eating them, while mumbling to my husband in between mouthfuls “wow, these are good”.

Best part is, I didn’t feel so terrible after eating them.  Chickpeas are chock full of health benefits!  Plus they were air fried with all natural ingredients instead of being deep fried with unhealthy ones.

Chickpeas rock in the nutritional game!

  • Rich in fiber and protein – 1 cup of chickpeas has 14g of protein and 12g of fiber
  • Fiber helps you feel fuller longer and may help with weight management
  • Full of key vitamins and minerals such as iron, calcium, potassium, B vitamins, magnesium
  • Loaded with antioxidants such as selenium and beta carotene to fight free radicals

What ingredients you need to makes air fryer chickpeas

  • Canned chickpeas:  I used one can of drained chickpeas.
  • Olive oil:  Or any oil you have on hand.
  • Spices: I made these chickpeas a bit spicy with garlic powder, cajun spice and turmeric.  The cajun spice I had is a blend of salt, chili, celery seed, mustard powder, thyme, pepper, onion, garlic, tarragon and parsley.  Since it has salt already, I didn’t have to add any extra salt.  If you don’t have cajun, you can substitute with chili powder, curry powder, paprika or any spices you like.

How do you make air fryer chickpeas?

  1. Drain and rinse the canned chickpeas.
  2. Mix the chickpeas with oil and spices.
  3. Put them in the air fryer at 200 degrees C or 390 degrees F for 10 to 12 minutes.  Stop the air fryer half way through to give it a shake.  Check the chickpeas at 10 minutes and see if they are crunchy enough for you.  If not, air fryer them longer until they are as crunchy and crispy as you like.
  4. Enjoy!
