This delicious wakame seaweed salad is a nutritional powerhouse that can be made in just 15 minutes! Its sweet and vinegary dressing has a nice kick with the addition of chili flakes.
This wakame seaweed salad is a refreshing side dish that is so easy to make. In this recipe, I added julienned cucumbers but you can add as many fresh veggies as you like. Sliced radishes, fresh baby spinach, julienned carrots and even cherry tomatoes would work nicely.
What is wakame?
Wakame is a type of nutrient-dense seaweed that’s historically been cultivated by Japan and Korea. It’s often used in a variety of soups and salads. You can find dried wakame sold in packages. It just takes minutes to rehydrate and make a fresh dressing to go with it.

Wakame Seaweed Salad
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup dried wakame
- 1 cucumber
- 2 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon mirin
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 2 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1/2 teaspoon chili flakes
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
Instructions
- Soak wakame seaweed in cold water for 5 minutes to rehydrate. Rinse and drain well.
- Julienne the cucumber.
- To make the dressing, whisk together soy sauce, mirin, honey, rice vinegar, sesame oil, chili flakes and sesame seeds.
- Mix the dressing with wakame and serve.
